Hi Tracy, sorry to getting back to you so late, well you can achieve the distressing effect in two ways. In this case we first painted the piece with white paint and afterwards the green one. Later, using a wet cloth, we gently washed the area where we wanted the white paint to be visible – all this to get this very distressed look. You can also use a fine sand paper instead of a wet cloth.
One more tips, we always put one coat of varnish in between two layers of paint.
