Vintage Chest of Drawers (approx 1930s’) painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Vintage Shabby Chic Chest of Four Drawers
This Shabby Chic Chest of Drawers is quite vintage, comes from 1930s. When I first saw it I fell in love with its details; the carved slat at the top and the pull handles are simple yet so beautiful.
For long time we couldn’t decide whether to paint it or not, it was so charming as it was. But, after all, we end up with a piece you can see at the pictures.
It was not too hard to prepare the body, the layer of varnish was thin and cracked. Originally it was protected with shellac, I love smell of it during sanding, reminds me old forest. The condition of the body was quite good, I just filled some minor cracks on the surface.
Looking at the pulls we were in doubt again: whether to restore them or leave untouched. We decided to stop half way. I just gently polished tops of carvings, this way I achieved silver contours against dark background. In similar way we accented structure of top slat, the tops of carved elements are white against grey background.
At the end, having our vintage chest of drawer done in shabby chic style we gave up the idea of transferring any prints onto it.
We decided to keep it simple.
This Vintage Shabby Chic Chest of Drawers was painted with Annie Sloan’s ‘Old White’ and ‘Paris Grey’. After that it was covered with two layers of Colron’s acrylic non-yellowing varnish, so it is safe to wipe with a dump cloth.
