How we did it: Custom Shabby Chic Makeover with Print

In this post I would like to present you the way we gone through to restore to life the old and neglected chest of drawers. Bear in mind: it is not a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) tutorial, it is rather DIM (Done-It-Myself) story.

Below you can see the subject of this topic – almost dead body before against the results of our shabby chic restoration works after. Read More

Antique Shabby Chic Dresser with Mirror – Drawer Chest no. 09

Antique Shabby Chic Dresser with Mirror – Vintage Chest of 3 Drawers

This is Antique Shabby Chic Dresser with Mirror we restored recently. It is quite old, so we list it as Antique, not Vintage. It will be any woman (and man) best friend.

It is quite heavy, made of solid oak.
Top is stained in rich dark walnut colour.
Body is painted with Annie Sloan’s ‘Old Ochre’ chalk paint and then protected with Clear and Dark Waxes.

This one comes with three drawers.
It has small fancy wheels to make moving around easier.

The piece is very old and the mirror has some spots that show it`s age, this adds to the aged character of this antique dresser.

This Antique Shabby Chic Dresser with Mirror was painted with Annie Sloan’s ‘Old Ochre’ and gently distressed along leading edges. After that it was covered and polished with Annie Sloan’s clear and dark waxes. It is safe to wipe with a dump cloth.

top: 92cm x 45cm;
height of bottom part: 81cm;
height with a mirror: 152cm;
mirror: 58cm x 48cm;

Annie Sloan – ‘Old Ochre’

top: Ronseal’s Wood Stain (Walnut) & Clear Acrylic Varnish
body: Annie Sloan’s ‘Dark Wax’ & ‘Clear Wax’

Vintage Chest of Drawers (approx 1930s’) painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Vintage Shabby Chic Chest of Four Drawers

This Shabby Chic Chest of Drawers is quite vintage, comes from 1930s. When I first saw it I fell in love with its details; the carved slat at the top and the pull handles are simple yet so beautiful.
For long time we couldn’t decide whether to paint it or not, it was so charming as it was. But, after all, we end up with a piece you can see at the pictures. Read More

Vintage Shabby Chic Chest of Drawers with Print No. 02

Vintage Shabby Chic Chest of Drawers with French Corset Print

This is old chest of three drawers we renovated using print transfer techniques

As you can see on pictures it was painted before, unfortunately it did not help in our works. It was four or five thick layers of oil paint with a lot of greasy dirt in between. It took ages before we could get started.

We painted it with our favourite Annie Sloan’s paints

For printing we have used some stunning vintage French advert. You can find it at Cottage Market page

We transferred this vintage print using water decal method. You can find full instructions on this subject in our tutorial on making shabby chic furniture with prints
